So you've seen HypnoBirthing and what it can do but did you know that hypnosis can be used safely and successfully before and during conception and throughout pregnancy for a wide range of health issues?
Women with increased stress, needle/medical phobias, high blood pressure, discomfort, severe anxiety, heartburn and water retention can all benefit. You can try it to turn breech babies or for natural induction, preparing for a caesarean and rapid healing after birth.
Under hypnosis you are deeply relaxed and can learn techniques that that help you visualise your baby in your womb. Imagine a 3D scan but by using your own mind!
As a treatment it is growing in popularity because it has no negative side effects and can be used safely in pregnancy when women's other options are limited.
How does it work?
Our minds are incredibly powerful and the link between our thoughts and our physical body is undeniable. Our conscious mind can only focus on a few things at any given moment in time, but our subconscious is much, much bigger and is constantly processing the world around us and storing information away.
Hypnotherapy works with your subconscious mind to help overcome unwanted habits, behaviours and physical responses that have been stored throughout your life, whether wanted or not.
What does it feel like?
If you've ever found yourself drifting off mid-conversation or getting lost in a movie or a good book then you have experienced an altered state similar to hypnosis. It is a comfortable state, similar to daydreaming where you remain aware of what is going on around you yet completely at ease, undisturbed by background noise.
Contrary to popular myth, a hypnotherapist cannot make you do anything that you don't want to do and will not 'put you under'. You are able to stop the session at any time should you wish to.
Hypnosis is achieved in pregnancy though a deep state of relaxation, something that you can then practice at home enabling you to be relaxed and stress free.
How do I find out more?

Researchers have found that after 17 weeks cortisol, the stress hormone, can be found in the amniotic fluid at the same levels as in the mothers blood. Relaxation will help to massively reduce the production of this hormone, minimising the effect on your unborn baby.
